All India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna is one of the apex healthcare institutes established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). Recruitment of faculty was undertaken by the MoHFW being coordinated by AIIMS Patna.
The institute is also in the process of recruiting more faculty and starting new departments. The Hospital is well developed now, with each department having its own OPD block area, running 3 major state of the art semi-modular operation theatres, and two minor operation theatres. The institute also has a telemedicine programme called Chhattisa, a community outreach programme which has conducted more than 100 health camps. The medical college is a fully functional central air conditioned building with wifi and has the various teaching departments along with their teaching and research laboratories.
The Nursing college is housed in a separate building. Hostels are available for girls, boys and residents separately (married and unmarried accommodation) with multiple mess and food plaza. All hostels are with wifi facility. Recreational facilities have developed over time and includes a world class gymnasium, cricket and football pitches, open playgrounds, badminton courts and indoor games.
Patna is the capital and largest city of the state of Bihar in India. Patna is the second-largest city in eastern India after Kolkata. The modern city of Patna is situated on the southern bank of river Ganges. The city also straddles the rivers Sone, Gandak and Punpun.
Public transportation today is provided for by buses, auto rickshaws and local trains. Auto rickshaws are said to be the lifeline of the city.
Patna has a Humid subtropical climate with extremely hot summers from late March to early June, the monsoon season from late June to late September and chilly winter nights and foggy or sunny days from November to February
